Our very latest micro-expedition experience saw a 9 person team tackling the very best challenges that winter-Norway has to offer. Over a long-weekend our team summited Norway’s highest peak; dug snow holes and climbed steep-ice…. Rjukan has a very special history as the home of telemark skiing and the scene of World War 2’s ‘Vemork Heavy Water Raid’. The team retraced the steps of the commando saboteurs and went on to enjoy ‘ice-breaking drills’, back-country skiing and practical avalanche skills… A fantastic experience…. achieved just before Norway closed it’s borders. Huge thanks to Tor Olav Berg and Lars Petter for their outstanding support and guidance.

Annual NATO Family Ski Event – Hovden, Norway
23-28 February… for the 10th year, it was a pleasure to catch up with the fine folk of NATO, JWC Winter Sports club at the Hovden Resort. The week was blessed with excellent weather, powder snow and @200 keen and enthusiastic skiers! The Club enjoyed the full suite of Ski activities – with Wilderness Solutions leading on Beginners and Intermediate Alpine and Cross-Country skiing… As ever it was a wrench to leave Hovden, but with the Hotel in the safe and innovative hands of Lars Christian Jensen – next year’s event will already be scheduled! A huge thanks to the NATO team and to Alex Murray for his support and humour throughout.
45 Commando – Pre Norway…
It was a privilege to join Britain’s Mountain and Cold Weather experts for a couple of days ahead of their deployment to North Norway. Talking matters ‘cold and uncomfortable’ – with the Officers, SNCOs and men, the visit took me back 25 years to when I was serving there and enjoying similar adventures! We are in safe hands!
